BLACKMOOR GATE MARKET

Blackmoor Gate Market would host some of the largest autumn sheep sales seen in the southwest of England being an important centre for breeding and store sheep. Being easily accessible on the West side of Exmoor Blackmoor Gate holds regular sales throughout the year, normally on a Monday fortnightly, but now in the busy autumn period from September through to October sales are weekly. Within the autumn calendar sales are hosted for the Exmoor Horn Sheep Breeders’ Society, Devon Closewool Sheep Breeders’ Society, South West Blue Faced Leicester Club. The facilities at Blackmoor Gate have been much improved in recent years and the pens will hold up to 7000 when full in the autumn. All sheep are sold through sale rings for the majority of the year.
